Digital Heart Manual wins NHS Scotland eHealth Awards
Digital Heart Manual wins first prize at the NHS Scotland eHealth awards
Congratulations to the Digital Heart Manual team who won first prize for Innovation and Research at the NHS Scotland eHealth awards, Health Informatics Scotland Conference last week in the Surgeons Hall, Edinburgh.
The Digital Heart Manual featured in a presentation at the BACPR Conference in October. The Heart Manual Programme is the UK's leading home based supported self-management programme for individuals recovering from acute Myocardial Infarction and/or Revascularisation. Since its implementation, many published studies have accumulated evidence on its effectiveness. The Heart Manual is the most widely investigated, validated and recommended programme for an increasing number of patients and health authorities.
As well as the presentation of eHealth awards, there were keynotes from the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Shona Robinson MSP, members of the Scottish government eHealth department, as well as prominent academics and industry.
The award was presented by Mr Eddie Turnbull, Head of eHealth at the Scottish Government.
Patients, clinicians and eHealth experts from around Scotland inputted to the Heart Manual digital format, which was an integral part of its development. It is therefore terrific to be able to share this news with all those involved.
The fact that clinicians now have a choice to use the Heart Manual in book or digital format with their patients has been extremely well received in the UK and further afield. While the scaling up of digital technology can be seen as the way forward, having the choice of paper OR digital helps the many NHS areas who are not yet ready for 100% technology, and the many patients who may still prefer a book to a 'tablet!'
