BACPR Council Election results announced at AGM
As a Members' Organisation BACPR
Council are your representatives. It is important that our
Council is representative of all aspects of the Cardiac Rehabilitation
pathway and the multi-disciplinary team. We are delighted to
welcome our new President Elect and three new Ordinary Officers who bring a
wealth of expertise and experience. They will be inducted
at our December 2016 meeting. Our President Elect will serve a
one year term before taking on the role of President (two years). Our
Ordinary Officers will serve an initial two year term.
President Elect Our President Elect is Dr Scott Murray, Cardiologist trained as an Interventionalist, though he also holds a First Class BSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine from Glasgow University and in the end his interest in 'prevention' won the day! In Scott's own words: "Having kicked my stent habit this year and rehabilitated, I am now focused on this important but continually overlooked aspect of heart care!" Scott has recently been appointed as a clinical lead for CVD Prevention and Rehabilitation in Liverpool and is truly passionate about raising the profile of this specialty across the spectrum of healthcare professionals, the general public and the media. To the role of President Elect, Scott brings innovative ideas and a desire to help drive BACPR to a position of increased strength and wider influence.
Ordinary Officers With seven year experience as a Cardiac Exercise Specialist at Papworth, we are delighted to welcome Vicky Hatch. Vicky is the current EIN Vice-Chair and hopes to promote the prevention and rehabilitation agenda with a particular focus on learning opportunities for Exercise Professionals. Dr Carolyn Deighan is a Health Psychologist based within the Heart Manual Team in Edinburgh. She has already been involved with the BACPR Core Competences work and is looking forward to bringing her expertise to more of our work. Rachel Owen is a Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse and has worked within the speciality since 1997. She is currently the Cardiovascular Lead Nurse on the South Wales Cardiac Network and is looking forward to continuing our representation in Wales and promoting the BACPR Certification. In welcoming Scott, Vicky, Carolyn and Rachel we expand our Council to directly represent 10 separate professions. Council will also include direct representation for England, Wales and Scotland and we are already in discussions to co-opt additional expertise to directly represent Northern Ireland.
